Timbor Skillvarsity ‘Healthy Cooking Healthy Living’ Seminar

Ahmedabad, August 26th 2012 (Sunday): Dr. Bimal Chhajer, founder of SAAOL Heart Centre and ex-consultant of AIIMS was the guest speaker at the ‘Healthy Cooking Healthy Living’ seminar organized by Timbor Skillvarsity. Dr. Chhajer, a pioneer in non-invasive cardiology in India, spoke at length about how one can prevent, reduce and reverse cardiac disease by incorporating science and lifestyle changes such as eating food cooked in Zero Oil. Dr. Chhajer is an author of over 100 cook books and emphasises that zero oil food does not mean bland or tasteless food. Elaborate medication and extensive surgery should only be used as a last resort. The fact that Dr. Chhajer did not use medical jargon was highly appreciated by the 150 plus audience members.

Our own nutritionist, Smruti took the second half of the session and gave the audience some diet tips. The audience was also given the opportunity to taste first hand, oil-less food. The Halwa, made entirely without oil or ghee and the sprouts, both of which were cooked in Timbor Cook Care, a range of vacumatic cookware made out of titanium specifically for oil-less and waterless cooking created quite a stir amongst the audience. They found no difference in the look, texture or taste of this oil-less food. The seminar ended with some nutrition and dietary tips.

Apart from the awareness created and the obvious health benefits of Zero oil – the best part about the seminar was that complete strangers; from advocates to physiotherapists to dieticians, couples and undergraduates – all interacted with each other, exchanged their personal experiences, tips, and had lengthy discussions regarding their health beliefs. The tremendous response to this seminar has proven that social awareness is the need of the day and Timbor plans to hold follow-up oil-less cooking workshops for the health conscious people of Ahmedabad.

Healthy Cooking Healthy Living Seminar by Dr. Bimal Chhajer

Today's sedentary lifestyle has lead to an increase in diseases such as hypertension, high cholesterol, diabetes, high blood pressure, etc. There has been a disturbing rise in the number of obese children in India too.

Ahmedabad is already referred to as the diabetes capital of India! According to a recent Diabetes Atlas released by the International Diabetes Federation, the number of diabetics in the country has crossed 60 million and is expected to breach the 100-million mark by 2030 – one person dies from diabetes and two more get the disease every 10 seconds in our country.

With such an alarming rise in lifestyle diseases, there is a crying need for healthy food. Awareness needs to be created. Exercise and eating right are two preventive measures one can take for the family.

It is imperative to eat healthy, without any compromise on taste. Be responsible for your family’s welfare and well-being.
