Modular Kitchens - quite the rage!

The Western consumer is quite aware and has thus created the demand for modular kitchens, and India too is seeing a surge in this demand. The modular kitchen concept is based on the idea that the kitchen is not just a room to cook and eat, but also a space where the family gathers for relaxation and comfort, made in such a way so as to utilize optimum space.

Timbor Home’s modular kitchens are based on this very idea and so as to cater to all consumer segments, they have two separate brands for modular kitchens, ‘Timbor Cucine’ and the higher-end ‘IKI Kitchen.’

Many of the new-age home owners have shown a preference for modular kitchens and furniture. Consumers usually search out and finalize their designs while the house is getting built/furnished etc. This saves a lot of time as the modular kitchen is only installed once all the other aspects of the kitchen building site are complete.

Take a look at some of the IKI kitchen designs:

Simple wood front panels contrast with green laminated wall units give a simple yet contemporary look to the kitchen.

The straight design with wall unit and side units in contrast color add to the overall look of the kitchen.

The Hi gloss lacquer teamed with aluminium give a very modern and classy look.

Open glass fronted drawers add to the aesthetics of the design.

High gloss laminated front doors invite you to be tactile. They harmonize perfectly with the open glass fronted drawers. The aluminium tambor unit with aluminum framed glass shutters, create a picture of sheer elegance and timelessness!

Stink-Free, Smoke-Free Kitchens

With modern lifestyle gadgets flooding the market, kitchen chimneys have made an entry into the middle class homes more as a necessity. Either by way of modular kitchens which provide chimneys along with other equipment such as those offered by Timbor Home or as an effect of growing awareness among the majority to keep away from dirt and grime, most people are opting for electrical chimneys to keep the kitchen odourless and smokeless.

‘‘The trend of open kitchens has increased over the years and a kitchen chimney has become mandatory to keep away all that oil and stain off from your clothes and face. The favoured brands today are Inalsa, Faber, Glen, Kaff, S u n flame and Kutchina and the price of these chimneys varies as per the specifications”, said Deepak Panda, an architect.

Electrolux and Whirlpool have also launched their products in the markets though Faber had introduced the concept of chimneys in India. Timbor Home too offers kitchen chimneys but these are provided as an add-on to their modular kitchens

Indian cooking system is elaborate and exudes a lot of smoke and flavours. So once installed, the chimneys gather all the oil and smoke from the food and get clogged, which makes cleaning the equipment very important..

“Most people do not really feel the need of regular maintenance of the chimney but it is necessary to ensure that it functions effectively. We give a good sale and service facility to our customers and also have an annual maintenance facility for the customers to regularly maintain the chimney,’’ said Ashok Patra, proprietor Ashok Exclusive which deals with electrical equipment.

The price of a branded chimney ranges from Rs 5000 to Rs 25000 depending on the additional features attached to it. Faber has about 42 models ranging from approximately Rs 2990 to Rs 9000, Various offers and deals are introduced from time to time and during festivals. Hindware chimneys range from Rs 5000 to Rs 25000.

Mr. Anant Maloo of leading furniture brand, Timbor Home states that the demand for chimneys and cooktops has been around since a while but has picked up a lot more recently. Narendra Kumar Sethi who sells Elica and Kaff brands feels the demand for kitchen chimneys have increased over the years.

‘’The concept of apartments have resulted in bulk sales.’’ Corroborating the fact, G. Vijayalaxmi, a homemaker says, “We live in an apartment and have small kitchens which fill up with smoke and odour that spread within the house. But installation of a chimney has helped us deal with the problem for all times to come.’’
